Mr. Nice guy or just plain stupid?
This Sunday there's a benefit thingie that I'm supposed to attend. It begins at noon and I won't be able to make my grand appearance until nearly six PM. That's six hours for everyone to have fun, socialize and EAT without me there. I told them that they had better save me some food or I'd not be very happy at all. I'm wondering. Is this the proper attitude to have when attending a fund raiser? I'm thinking probably not. I promise to be on my best behavior, both charming and witty even if I'm starving and there's no food left or left out. I promise to be nice and not make the whole thing about me and my belly. I promise. Really.
Despite the way I tend to come across here (and elsewhere) I'm not an egotistical S.O.B. (Although I did once draw a comic book for a company titled "S.O.B." but that's another story all together.). I'm actually a very, very nice and decent guy. I'm one of those "give the shirt off my back" kind of guys. And I do. Often. Wanna' know what you get in return for giving someone the shirt off your back? I'll tell you. You get no shirt. That's it. Period. Maybe a sun burn and/or the chills but you don't get gratitude. Usually not even a "Thanks." It seems that most people feel as if they are some how "owed" your service and assistance and think nothing of accepting it when offered and/or taking it when it isn't. What would I like in return? Perhaps the occasional acknowledgement that I am now shirtless. Is that too much to ask? I guess it is.
I say all of this because I'm thinking that it's time to stop. I'm tried of talking into the wind.
