Another butterfly story.
BenderSpink and FilmEngine recently announced that they intend to produce a third installment of the time-bending/mind-twisting Butterfly Effect film franchise. The first Butterfly Effect film, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, was almost nearly cool. It was, like, just about "there" in the not quite right but doesn't quite suckish meter. There is such a meter isn't there? Well ... there should be if there isn't. The second film in the franchise just plain sucked-ish. All the coolness was gone. The mood and the atmosphere were gone. It just sorta' sat there using the same general concept without feeling the need to be at all entertaining. What a waste of possibilities. Someone should be shot. Seriously. Or at least lose all their Happy meal bonus points. Or sumthin'.
Now they're doing a third installment, which, based upon the previous sequel, and all that we've learned by our intensive study of film history, should suck goat poo. I mean, we know this right? If we do not learn from history we're doomed to repeat it. Or so they say. Well, someone somewhere said it. or said they said it. Or something.
Like you care. Take a look ...
See? Not too shabby.
Shabby-lite.
See, this bugs me because the first Butterfly Effect film really could have been the beginning of something cool. Like, maybe a great franchise? The original movie held such hope and promise and it was followed up with little more than empty, meaningless pictures. Frame after frame after frame. Butterfly Effect could have been one of the great superheroes out there, but nooo. Instead it was just one more flash in the pan almost was/could have been. And YES! I did say superhero.
Don't even get me started on the Crow and that horse that could but didn't. Oh. And they're doing another Donnie Darko. Without Donnie!!!
Heaven help us all ...
